The Houston Astros defeated to the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 in 10 innings on Monday night inside Angel Stadium. The loss comes on a day where Yordan Alvarez was named American League Player of the Week.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The day began with the Astros getting good news. Yordan Alvarez was named American League Player of the Week following a .476 average with two home runs and nine RBIs over the last seven days.

The Angels opted to start Grayson Rodriguez in this game. He was able to work a clean first inning, posting an opening zero.

The Astros opposed him with righty Spencer Arrighetti. The former Ragin’ Cajun also started strong, cruising through the first frame.

The second inning was not as kind to Arrighetti. He allowed a couple of baserunners. Then, Trey Mancini came up with an RBI single to put the Angels up 1-0. Later in the inning, Logan O’Hoppe provided a two-out, two-run double to make it 3-0 Angels.

The Astros responded with a single run in the third. It came via Christian Walker coming through with an RBI double of his own.

Later, in the sixth inning, Houston drew even. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Lamonte Wade Jr and Cam Smith brought home the pair of run to even the score 3-3.

Arrighetti would go six innings, allowing those three runs and registering a quality start. Enyel De Los Santos entered for the seventh, and for the first time in seven outings, he allowed a run. Zach Neto hit a solo shot to make it 4-3 Angels into the late innings.

Kirby Yates came on to pitch the ninth with a one-run lead for the Angels. After Jeremy Pena walked and stole second, Walker brought him home on an RBI single to tie the game 4-4.

The game would go to extras, and the Astros grabbed a 5-4 lead. Jake Meyers hit a pop up just out of the infield, but Jose Altuve was able to score from third after tagging.

Bryan Abreu would work the bottom of the tenth. With a runner beginning at second, a base hit looked like it would tie the game. However, Brice Matthews threw Mike Trout out at the plate. Abreu would shut the door afterwards, securing an Astros win.

BIG NUMBER: 6

The Astros first six hits of the night were all doubles. They did not register a single, triple, or home run during this stretch. However, Walker’s single tied the game in the ninth.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Christian Walker

Walker tied the game in the ninth on an RBI single. For the night, he went 2-4 with two RBIs and a walk.

UP NEXT: The Astros and Angels meet again tomorrow night at 8:38 PM. You can listen to that game on Newstalk 98.5 FM.
