Vandebilt Catholic’s baseball and softball teams enjoyed memorable runs this season.
The Terriers were the Division II select state runner-up in baseball, and the Lady Terriers added to their state record total of 17 state championships with their third in a row.
For their success, Vandebilt swept the Most Outstanding Player awards on both the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 4A teams.
Vandebilt sophomore Corey Bourgeois is baseball’s Most Outstanding Player, and senior Lauren Baudoin earned softball’s Most Outstanding Player.
Bourgeois, the District 8-4A MVP, finished with a .547 batting average to go with a .612 on-base percentage, 13 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 43 RBIs, 43 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. As pitcher, he was 6-3 with a 2.60 ERA, 45 strikeouts and .229 opponents’ batting percentage.
Bourgeois helped Vandebilt to a Division II select state championship series appearance opposite St. Charles Catholic, which won the series with a 6-5 win in the third game of the best-of-three championship series.
Baudoin, a Nicholls State University signee, was 20-1 in 125 innings pitched, 172 strikeouts and 1.28 ERA. She batted .402 with six homers for the three-time defending state champions.
Baudoin, 84-7 with 750 strikeouts in her career, tossed a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Patrick Taylor in the state semifinals. She allowed no runs during state tournament and had the winning strikeout in a 2-0 win over Archbishop Hannan in the state finals.
St. Charles coach Wayne Stein was named Class 4A Coach of the year. It was the third time in the last five seasons he led St. Charles’ football and baseball teams to state titles in the same year.
North DeSoto softball coach Tim Whitman earned Class 4A Coach of the Year. The Lady Griffins won the Division II non-select championship starting four freshmen, four sophomores and one upperclassman.
