4 Downs: Cajuns vs Troy

Posted by clintdomingue on December 5, 2015 in Featured

Welcome everyone to another edition of #4Downs!

1st Down: Davis Makes Strong Statement Heading Into 2016

True freshman Jordan Davis played in garbage time last week and was good during that timeframe. So just to see what he can do in more than that, Hud played him a lot more against the Troy Trojans. The results: positive. Davis went 20-34 for 207 yards and a score. If not for four sacks and a fumble that led to Troy’s last TD, Davis’ performance probably would have been even better. In my mind, Davis has an edge over Nixon and Haack heading into the offseason.

2nd Down: Senioritis

It felt like this team was suffering from a case of senioritis, especially on defense. The Cajuns were torched for 448 yards, 320 of which was through the air. The Cajuns defense has been at the subject of criticism all season long. Moving forward, perhaps it’s time for another change in staff in that position. It’ll be interesting to see what happens during the offseason with the defense.

3rd Down: Time for Offensive Changes?

Doing things over and over again and expecting different results is ridiculous to me. And that’s what the Cajuns offense has looked like all season long. When Haack is out there, it’s gonna be a pass play. When Nixon is out there it’s a run play. Simply put, the playcalling has been vanilla. The teams know exactly how Coach Hud is going to do things on the field. Maybe it’s time to, as Bruce Dickinson put it, explore the space a bit.

4th Down: What’s Next?

If the Cajuns want to get back towards the top of the Sun Belt and make it back to a bowl game (barring any postseason ban coming from the NCAA allegations), there needs to be changes made during the offseason. Will there be any changes? Hopefully. But only time will tell.
