You read that headline right. Ragin Cajuns star running back Elijah McGuire will be joining the Cajuns basketball team.
The announcement came from the University on Monday and that he will be joining the team effective immediately.
McGuire, who announced he would return to UL Lafayette the week prior, was a two sport athlete at Vanderbilt Catholic, being named an all-district guard while playing with the Terriers.
“We’re excited to have Eli join our basketball team,” Marlin said in the news release. “He has a tremendous passion for both sports and this (playing basketball) has been something that he has wanted to do since he first enrolled at UL. This is his first opportunity to join our program and we’re anxious to see what he can do.”
McGuire was the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and has racked up more than 3,000 yards rushing in his three years playing for the Cajuns.
McGuire will possibly make his debut for the Cajuns basketball team inside the Cajundome as the team will begin a five game home stand on Thursday when they will take on South Alabama.
