Cajuns Beat Georgia Southern 87-78

Posted by clintdomingue on March 5, 2016 in Latest News

Cajuns

“We’ll see y’all in New Orleans.”

That was what the Cajuns seniors said after handing a loss to Georgia Southern (14-16, 10-10 SBC) on Saturday night after an interesting start in the Cajundome.

After a back-and-forth start between the two teams, Shawn Long was called for a technical foul after talking to the referee over a foul called on him. This would lead to head Coach Bob Marlin coming unglued which was another technical. All of this led to four easy points for Georgia Southern.

But the Cajuns would take that fire and turn it into a positive, going on a 12-3 run late in the first half and headed into the locker room with a three-point lead.

The Ragin Cajuns opened up the second half on a strong note, hitting threes and getting good defensive plays. But Georgia Southern wasn’t about to let the Cajuns come away with an easy win. Tookie Brown scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, but it was not enough as the Cajuns were able to secure the number four seed in the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

Shepherd led the Cajuns with 20 points, five boards, three assists, and one steal on the night. Devonta Walker was right behind with 16 points, 16 boards, and one block.

Brown led the Eagles with the aforementioned 25 points, four boards, and three assists.

The Cajuns end the regular season 16-13 and went 21-8 in the Sun Belt. They will take on the winner of Georgia Southern and South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Friday afternoon with tipoff set for 5 pm.
