LSU Rallies In 7th to Complete Sweep of Fordham

Posted by clintdomingue on March 6, 2016 in Latest News

Even with a rough outing by LSU’s Alex Lange, the Tigers were able to rally back in the 7th inning to sweep the twinbill over Fordham.

The Tigers started off much like how they started the first game of the doubleheader with a pair runs batted in by Antoine Duplantis and Beau Jordan to go up 2-0 after the end of one inning. Cole Freeman made it 3-0 at the end of two after a sac fly scored Michael Papierski.

The third inning was where things started to unravel for Lange. The sophomore pitcher walked two straight batters and then Fordham’s Devito was able to put the Rams on the board off a wild pitch.

McNally knotted it up with a two-run double in the top of the fifth inning and the Rams got the lead later in the inning with Donadio hitting an RBI single. The sixth inning was nightmare for the Tigers, after two runs scored, one off of an RBI single by Lundy and a throwing error leading to Lundy scoring.

Stampfi gave the Rams a 7-3 lead heading into the seventh inning stretch. And when play resumed a rally began with a three run double by Kramer Robertson to knot it up. Then Jake Fraley hit an RBI single to take the lead. But the scoring didn’t stop there as Duplantis got an RBI triple and was followed up Beau Jordan hitting a double that plated the freshman from Lafayette High.

Caleb Gilbert got the win to improve to 1-1 with 2 1/3 shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out two in relief.

The Tigers (9-2) will stay at Alex Box to take on Louisiana Tech (7-3) with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
