Being home alone is scary. Even if you are an adult. The house can make weird noises. You can hear the neighbors talking outside and at first, you may think it is a ghost. But what if those sounds turn out to be something real, like an actual person trying to break in your house. As a child, a man once broke in our home and tried to steal our VCR, but my dad woke up and chased the thief away. As an adult, I am not sure how I would handle the same situation. Here is a story about a brave kid who stood up and fought against a grown man who tried to burglarize their home.

A little kid who was home alone managed to scare off an intruder, thanks to a gift he bought for himself.

According to a report, a 19-year-old intruder broke in a South Carolina home early in the day on a Friday. This intruder didn’t expect anyone to be home but to the surpise of the criminal, someone was home.

Braydon Smith is an 11-year-old kid in the sixth grade who lives in a rural part of South Carolina. He had a gift card from Academy Card and decided to use it on a machete. He and his dad go camping pretty often. Braydon thought he could use it chop wood for a campfire.  So he bought it with the help of his dad. Braydon kept his machete in his room near bed.

Braydon was playing video games when he heard a knock at the door around 10:00 am on a Friday morning. He didn’t recognize the woman knocking. She had two men with her. So he called his mom, and his mom called the police. Braydon hid in his closet with his machete in hand. A man forced his way into the home grabbing a pellet gun near the front door. Braydon knew the gun was not loaded. The intruder discovered Braydon in the bedroom. He took the machete and told Braydon to sit quietly in the closet.

The intruder rummaged through the home pocketing different things. While he did this, he set down the machete. Braydon picked it up and used it to swing and stab the intruder. The man kicked Braydon and pushed him to the floor. The intruder was bleeding and injured so he took off running from the home.

The intruder was eventually arrested and put behind bars.
