Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns’ kicker Kenny Almendares has been named a 2024 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award semifinalist presented by the Orange Bowl.
The award recognizes the top place-kicker in college football and is named after Lou “Toe” Groza, who kicked in the NFL for 21 seasons. He was an All-Pro offensive lineman as well as the team’s kicker.
Almendares is the school’s all-time scoring leader, a mark he set just two weeks ago against Arkansas State. He is 22-24 on field goals and 36-36 on extra points this season. That has allowed him to lead the Sun Belt with 102 points scored.
Almendares has made 63 career field goals, and is likely to top the Sun Belt record held by Blake Grupe and Chandler Staton. Kenny has hit on over 80% of his field goals as a collegiate kicker.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will recognize Almendares and the rest of the senior class on Saturday as they take on the Troy Trojans for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
