Jose Altuve has been named the American League Silver Slugger at second base for the 2024 season, the award announced on Tuesday.
The honor marks the seventh time that the Houston Astros’ star has been a Silver Slugger, tying him with Ryne Sandberg for the most by a second baseman all-time.
Altuve batted .295 with 20 home runs and 65 RBIs in 2024. He was named an All-Star for the ninth time, and played the most games in a season that he has since 2016. Additionally, he stole 22 bases, the most he has had since 2017.
The Astros made it to the Wild Card Round, where they fell in a Best-of-Three series to the Detroit Tigers. It marked the first time in seven seasons that Houston did not make it to the American League Championship Series.
Altuve signed a five-year extension and is under contract with the Astros until after the 2029 season. He ranks among the franchise’s all time leaders in multiple offensive categories, and has been apart of both of the franchise’s World Series Championships.
