Houston Astros second basemen Jose Altuve has been named American League Player of the Week for the second time this season. The award is for the week running from September 4th through September 10th.
Altuve has ignited the Astros’ offense ever since he returned from his injury that cost him a large portion of the season. Last week, he batted .357 with six home runs and eight runs batted in. He also recorded a 1.400 OPS and hit three home runs in one game against the Texas Rangers.
The Astros hold a two-game lead in the American League West division and are looking to fend off the Rangers and the Seattle Mariners. They will be in action for two more games against the Oakland A’s at home before heading to Kansas City to face the Royals in a three-game set this weekend.
