Astros star second baseman Jose Altuve underwent successful surgery on his right thumb earlier today, according to Astros General Manager Dana Brown.

Altuve fractured his right thumb after being hit by a 96-mph fastball while playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic last Saturday.

Jose Altuve underwent thumb surgery today in Houston, general manager Dana Brown said. The timeline is two months before he can resume baseball activities.

Altuve will not travel back to Florida and will remain in Houston with Spring Training wrapping up later this week in West Palm Beach.

The Houston Astros will begin their quest for back-to-back World Championships on March 30th when they host the Chicago White Sox at Minute Maid Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m.
