App State’s Bats Overpower Ragin Cajuns

Posted by clintdomingue on March 18, 2017 in Latest News

Cajuns Baseball

The bats of Appalachian State (9-10, 1-1 Sun Belt) were just too much for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (10-6, 1-1 Sun Belt) as they fell to the Mountaineers 12-4.

Izzy Edwards came close to duplicating what he did on Friday night, but it was unable to get over the wall and gave him a standup triple. However, Appalachian State responded with a four run inning thanks to a pair of two-run singles in the top of the second.

Handsome Monica would respond in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to cut the lead down to two runs. However, Matt Vernon would leadoff the third inning with a solo shot, the first of four home runs for the Mountaineers.

Brenn Conrad tried to get the Cajuns back in it in the seventh inning with an RBI single, but the Mountaineers put the nail in the coffin with a pair of home runs in the ninth inning from Jason Curtis and Conner Leonard.

Nick Lee dropped to 4-1 allowing five runs off of four hits, walked three, and struck out two in four and a third innings of work.

The Cajuns will look to win the rubber match on Sunday with first pitch slated for 11 am.
