Welcome everyone to the first ever edition of Around the Boot! Here at 103.7 the Game, we cover the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and the LSU Tigers like a blanket.
That being said, there’s a lot more than just those two schools in the state of Louisiana that have a loyal following. Also, there’s tons of other football games and sometimes these teams fall through the cracks and we want you to continue to be as informed as possible about all your favorite teams in the state of Louisiana. Before we get started, the UL Monroe Warhawks will be covered in the weekly “Around the Sun Belt” articles which is why they’re not featured here.
Southern University Jags:
South Carolina State kept the game within arms reach throughout the second half after getting a safety on a blocked punt by Chad Gilchrist. However, Southern’s Danny Johnson helped the Jags secure a 14-8 victory by blocking a pass in the endzone.
The Southern Jags will travel to Southern Miss next Saturday with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Tulane Green Wave:
The Green Wave started the season off right with a convincing 43-14 victory against in-state opponent Grambling. QB Jonathan Banks went 10-of-15 for 185 yards and three touchdowns.
Tulane will look to keep it going when they take on Navy on Saturday in their first conference game of the season. The Tigers will open up their home slate this week when they take on the Northwestern State Demons.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:
Another in-state matchup with the Bulldogs taking on the Demons of Northwestern State. Louisiana Tech started out strong with a 52-24 victory including three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, two of which were from QB J’Mar Smith.
Louisiana Tech will stay in the friendly confines this Saturday when they take on Mississippi State at 6:30 pm.
McNeese State Cowboys:
The Cowboys had a stellar in-state matchup this past Thursday when they took on Nicholls State in a barnburner that saw Lorran Fonseca hit a 32-yarder as the clock ran out to give the Colonels a 37-35 win over their Southland Conference rivals.
McNeese State will next host Florida Tech this Saturday at 6 pm while Nicholls will head over to College Station for a game against the Texas A&M Aggies.
