Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
Southern Jags:
The Jags headed to Hattiesburg and wound up being shut out by the Golden Eagles 45-0. The Jags started off on the wrong side of things with Southern Miss’ Thigpen recovering a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown.
That wasn’t the only defensive touchdown as Armstrong came up with a 46-yard pick six in the third quarter, making it 42-0. Southern will head over to San Antonio to take on Frank Wilson’s UTSA Roadrunners this Saturday at 6 pm.
Tulane Green Wave:
Tulane kept it competitive throughout Saturday afternoon’s matchup against Navy, getting within two points after Dontrell Hilliard ran it in from one-yard out with 12 minutes left in regulation, but were unable to close it out.
Tulane will head over to Norman next weekend to take on the second-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were dominated in front of their home crowd by Mississippi State on Saturday when Nick Fitzgerald put up 124 yards passing and 124 yards on the ground for five of the Bulldogs six touchdowns en route to a 57-21 win.
The Bulldogs day was made worse when they were at the Bulldogs six-yard line and fumbled it all the way back to their own 28-yard line. The play wound up becoming viral overnight on social media.
This play resulted in a loss of almost 90 yards.

Quarterback Tabary James had a solid outing, going 21-29 for 249 yards and two touchdowns. The Cowboys will travel to Alcorn State next Saturday at 6 pm.
Nicholls State Colonels:
The Nicholls Colonels came close to doing something special on Saturday night against Texas A&M when they tied things up in the fourth quarter after Chase Fourcade found Mason Roberts in the endzone for the two-point conversion.
However, the Aggies weren’t about to go down that easy as they scored 10 points in the final 7:34 to clinch a 24-14 victory. Nicholls State will return home on Saturday when they take on Prairie View with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Grambling State Tigers:
The Grambling Tigers hosted in-state opponent Northwestern State and came away with a 23-10 win. Grambling’s Devante Kincade ended up with 231 yards passing and a score.
