Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
Southern Jaguars:
The Southern Jaguars had to deal with Mother Nature in their road game against Jackson State last Saturday. After some delays due to thunderstorms in the area, the Jaguars came away with a 35-17 win.
Herb Edwards had his third straight 100-yard rushing game with a career-high 157 yards. Southern will head to Little Rock to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff with kickoff set for 4 pm.
Tulane Green Wave:
Tulane scored 21 unanswered points, but still came up short against South Florida in a 34-28 loss. Hilliard put the team on his back in the fourth quarter with a 24 yard reception from Jonathan Banks and a 16 yard run.
Tulane will hit the road for an in-conference matchup against Memphis with kickoff set for 7 pm.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs seemed to have everything under control after going up 27-16 with 4:08 left in the ballgame against Southern Miss. However, the Golden Eagles fought back with 10 points in the final 1:23 of regulation to tie things up. Keon Howard came away with the win in overtime after a 25-yard pass to Korey Robertson.
Louisiana Tech will hit the road when they take on the Rice Owls with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.
McNeese State Cowboys:
History was made on Saturday night during their homecoming contest against Incarnate Word with four interceptions for touchdowns on the way to a 55-7 victory.
The four pick-sixes tied an NCAA record previously set by four other schools. James Tabary also had a solid ballgame with 276 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys will hit the road when they take on Central Arkansas with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Nicholls State Colonels:
Nicholls State had last weekend off and will hit the road this weekend to take on Incarnate Word with kickoff set for 2 pm.
Southeastern Louisiana Lions:
It was another strong showing for Southeastern Louisiana with a 35-8 second half en route to a 56-21 victory over Abeliene Christian. Quarterback Lorenzo Nunez used his legs a lot more with three rushing touchdowns and 70 yards on 13 carries.
The Lions will return to Hammond this Saturday when they take on Sam Houston State with kickoff set for 3 pm.
Grambling State Tigers:
Grambling’s defense stepped up this week with seven turnovers en route to a 41-14 win over Alcorn State. Devante Kincade had another solid showing with 268 yards through the air and two touchdowns on the evening.
