Around the Boot: Week Eleven

Posted by clintdomingue on November 13, 2017 in Blogs, Latest News

Around the Boot

Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.

Southern Jaguars:

Herbert Edwards made the most of his 18 carries on Saturday night, amassing 159 yards and a touchdown to help the Jaguars get their seventh win of the season over Texas Southern by the score of 33-7.

Southern has next week off before taking on Grambling in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on November 25th with kickoff set for 4 pm.

Tulane Green Wave:

The Green Wave had another tough matchup on Saturday against East Carolina, but Jonathan Banks got the win in overtime with a 16-yard run into the endzone.

Tulane will return to Yulman Stadium on Saturday to take on the Houston Cougars with kickoff set for 3 pm.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:

It was a rough day for the Bulldogs with a 48-23 loss to Florida Atlantic. Louisiana Tech’s offense looked good with 512 total yards of offense, but was stymied once they entered enemy territory.

Louisiana Tech will hit the road to take on UTEP on November 18th with kickoff set for 2 pm.

McNeese State Cowboys:

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron had a long Saturday. He started things off coaching his team to a 33-10 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks. He then traveled to Lake Charles to see his son Parker Orgeron make an acrobatic touchdown pass to take down Northwestern State 44-24.

The Cowboys will now head to Lamar this Saturday with kickoff set for 6 pm.

Nicholls State Colonels:

Kyran Irvin and Tahj Smith both had career days on Saturday with a convincing 418 total yards rushing en route to a 34-13 victory over Stephen F. Austin.

The Colonels have a short week before traveling to Hammond on Thursday to take on Southeastern Louisiana with kickoff set for 6 pm.

Northwestern State Demons:

Northwestern State had a rough Saturday in Lake Charles, falling to McNeese State 44-24. The turning point came late in the first quarter when Trent Jackson recovered a fumble by the Demons 85 yards to put the Cowboys up 17-3.

The Demons will return home this Saturday to take on Stephen F. Austin with kickoff set for 3 pm.

Southeastern Louisiana Lions:

Southeastern Louisiana will wrap up their regular season on Thursday at home against the Colonels of Nicholls State. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.

Grambling State Tigers:

Grambling exploded offensively in the second half after being held to only four first downs to take down Alabama State by the score of 24-7.

The Tigers will head to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to take on the Southern Jaguars on November 25th with kickoff set for 4 pm.
