Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
Southern Jaguars:
The Southern Jaguars started off strong on Saturday with a 34-14 lead at the half thanks to a solid game from Austin Howard. However, it wasn’t without some dramatics as Brandon Duncan got Arkansas-Pine Bluff within a touchdown with 13 seconds left in the ballgame.
However, the Jaguars recovered the onside kick to seal a 47-40 victory. Southern returns to A.W. Mumford Stadium on Saturday when they take on Prairie View with kickoff set for 4 pm.
Tulane Green Wave:
Memphis established dominance from the word go against Tulane with a 56-28 victory.
Tulane will return to Yulman Stadium on Saturday to take on Cincinnati with kickoff set for 4 pm
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs got back to .500 last weekend thanks to Boston Scott rumbling into the endzone three times in a 42-26 victory over the Rice Owls.
Louisiana Tech will return to Ruston to host North Texas with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.
McNeese State Cowboys:
Central Arkansas was a big-play machine last weekend with 417 total offensive yards in a 47-17 victory. The game was put out of reach in the third quarter after Chris Chambers had a scoop and score early in the second half.
The Cowboys return to Cowboy Stadium this week to take on Southeastern Louisiana with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Nicholls State Colonels:
The extra time off wound up being a positive for the Colonels as they had a solid air attack with Chase Fourcade going for 358 yards passing en route to a 38-31 victory over Incarnate Word.
The Colonels wrap up their home slate on Saturday against Houston Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
Southeastern Louisiana Lions:
Sam Houston State caused some headaches last weekend with the final ten points of the ballgame to snap Southeastern’s five game win streak by the score of 33-23.
The Lions offense failed to crack 49 points or 500 total yards for the first time in six games. Southeastern Louisiana will head to Lake Charles to take on McNeese State with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Grambling State Tigers:
Devante Kindcade continues to roll with 347 yards and three passing touchdown en route to Grambling winning their seventh game of the year over Texas Southern 50-24.
The Tigers will travel over to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to take on Arknasas Pine-Bluff with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.
