Welcome everyone to another edition of Around the Boot! Every week we look at the other teams around the state of Louisiana that don’t get the same amount of coverage on the station as the LSU Tigers or the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
Southern Jaguars:
Austin Howard’s four touchdowns was the key for the Jaguars 37-31 victory over Prairie View at home. Late in the third quarter, Southern trailed 24-17 before they put up three straight touchdowns starting with a 24-yard touchdown from Herbert Edwards
The Jaguars will hit the road this weekend to take on Texas Southern with kickoff set for 5 pm.
Tulane Green Wave:
The Green Wave and Cincinnati had a battle for the ages on Saturday with Tulane getting within one point with 7:59 left in regulation. However, Tulane missed a field goal in the final 1:21 to give Cincinnati a 17-16 victory.
Tulane will hit the road this weekend to take on East Carolina with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs looked poised to come away with a win after a pair of field goals from Jonathan Barnes. However, North Texas came away with a 24-23 victory thanks a 14 yard run from Jeffery Wilson.
Louisiana Tech will return to Ruston on Saturday to take on Florida Atlantic with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.
McNeese State Cowboys:
McNeese State had a pretty tough challenge with a matchup against a high-powered offense in Southeastern Louisiana. They met the challenge, holding the Lions to three points on Saturday in an old-fashioned defensive battle.
The Cowboys will stay at home this weekend when they take on the Demons of Northwestern State with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Nicholls State Colonels:
The Colonels finished out their home slate with a thriller against Houston Baptist. After HBU tied things up with 23 seconds left, Chase Fourcade hurled a 44-yard pass to Dai’Jean Dixon to get a 23-17 win as time expired on Saturday.
The Colonels will return to action on Saturday to take on Stephen F. Austin with kickoff set for 3 pm.
Southeastern Louisiana Lions:
The Lions high-powered run game was stymied by McNeese State’s deense on Saturday in a 13-3 loss.
Southeastern Louisiana will wrap up the regular season with a matchup against the Colonels of Nicholls State with kickoff set for 6 pm.
Grambling State Tigers:
Grambling held off a second-half rally by Arkansas Pine-Bluff to get a 31-26 win. Devante Kincade continues to have a pretty good season with 254 passing yards and three touchdowns on the evening.
The Tigers will stay on the road to take on Alabama State with kickoff set for 2 pm.
