The Houston Astros looked to continue their winning ways by staying on the road and heading to Tampa to battle with the Tampa Bay Rays inside Tropicana Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Astros got rolling early after the big sweep over the weekend as Alex Bregman sent a solo home run to the left-field bleachers to put Houston up 1-0 in the first inning.
In the third inning, the Astros kept scoring as Yordan Alvarez continued his hot streak with an RBI single to score Chas McCormick before Yainer Diaz cleared the bases with a towering three-run homer to left center to put Houston ahead 5-0 in the third. Later in the inning, Tampa would get on the board with a sacrifice fly from Jose Caballero to score Taylor Wells.
In the fifth, the Astros loaded the bases with just one out, but they were only able to scratch across one run on a Jake Meyers fielder’s choice groundout.
The Astros’ five-run lead would hold on to be enough as with the performance of Framber Valdez and the bullpen, Houston would hang on to win 6-1 in Tampa.
BIG NUMBER: 10
The Houston offense managed 10 base hits in the contest, including a pair of homers on their way to their sixth straight win.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Framber Valdez
The Astros’ ace went 5.2 innings, giving up just one run on three hits while striking out nine. This solid performance comes after he was just one out away from a no hitter against the Rangers last week.
