Major League Baseball has become somewhat of a Father’s Day tradition. After falling 13-5 to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, the Houston Astros returned to Minute Maid Park for a series finale with the Tigers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Astros got rolling out of the gate with a single from Jose Altuve before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Yordan Alvarez then got the RBI single to score Altuve and put Houston ahead 1-0.

In the second inning, both Mauricio Dubon and Chas McCormick reached base for Altuve, who took Kenta Maeda for a three-run home run once again in Minute Maid Park as he did in Game 5 of the 2017 World Series.

Ronel Blanco got the Father’s Day start for the Astros and was electric, pitching seven innings of no-hit baseball with eight strikeouts. Detriot’s only opportunity at points was when Blanco issued three consecutive walks to load the bases, but he was able to get out of the jam.

Blanco was relieved after seven innings by Ryan Pressley, who gave up the first hit of the game to the Tigers with two outs in the eighth.

The shutout was broken in the ninth as Andy Ibanez doubled to left field to score Mark Canha and make it a 4-1 game. However, Josh Hader was able to finish off the Tigers and win the series for the Astros.

BIG NUMBER: .500

The win over Detroit puts the Astros 19-19 inside the Juice Box in 2024, bringing them to an even .500 record.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jose Altuve

Altuve had a great day at the plate including hitting a three-run home run to lead Houston to a big win on Father’s Day.

UP NEXT: The Astros will head to the Southside of Chicago for a three-game series with the White Sox. The first pitch is set for 7:10 and can be heard on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles.
