Game Three of the World Series may have come a day late, but it wasn’t short of theatrics as the Phillies hit five home runs in the first five innings and shut out the Houston Astros 7-0 at Citizens Bank Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The scoring came early and often for the Phillies, with the first runs coming in the bottom of the first when Bryce Harper unloaded a two-run shot to right field to make it 2-0 early.

In the second, Philadelphia got two more runs on solo home runs by Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh. Lance McCullers Jr got hit around by the Phillies lineup in Citizens Bank Park.

To the fifth, where the Phillies weren’t done. Kyle Schwarber joined the party with a two-run blast of his own before Rhys Hoskins hit another one to make it 7-0 Philadelphia. McCullers was relieved after becoming the first pitcher in World Series history to give up five home runs in a single start.

The Phillies were able to get the job done, shutting down the Astros offense and winning Game Three 7-0 at home.

BIG NUMBER: 5

Five home runs were hit off McCullers tonight, the first time in a World Series game that a starting pitcher gave up five homers in a start

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Phillies Pitchers

The Phillies’ pitching staff was excellent in Game Three, holding the Astros to five hits and zero runs in the contest.

UP NEXT: The Astros (1-2) and the Phillies (2-1) will meet for Game Four. First pitch is scheduled for 7:03 p.m. and you can hear it on The Game.
