The Houston Astros and first baseman Yuri Guirrel reached an agreement on a contract extension Tuesday.

The agreement was reached hours before the Astros first wild card game against the Minnesota Twins.

The agreement is a one-year contract with a player option in 2022 and guarantees $7 million. This is close to a 20 percent cut from Gurriel’s 2020 deal.

The deal is worth $6.5 million salary in 2021 and an $8 million club option in 2021. There is a $500,000 buyout. The performances bonuses will be based on plate appearances for Gurriel. The Astros first baseman can make up to $2 million in bonuses.

Other incentives in the contract are $50,000 for being named an All-Star and $50,000 if he is named League Championship Series MVP. Gurriel can also earn $200,000 for earning league MVP and $100,000 for World Series MVP.

If Gurriel finishes second for league MVP then he will earn $100,000 and he can earn $50,000 if he finishes third in voting. Two other incentives include $50,000 for the Gold Glove and $50,000 for Silver Slugger.

Gurriel hit .232 with six home runs and 22 RBIs through the 60-game regular season. He has spent five seasons with Houston.
