The Houston Astros have finalized a deal to sign free-agent first baseman Christian Walker, according to multiple sources including Jim Bowden.
The deal is reportedly for three years and $60 million in total, bringing it to $20 million in average annual value.
Walker is a 33-year old first basemen who has played most of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was a fourth round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2012 and spent two years with the O’s before spending the next eight with Arizona.
Walker had a breakout season in 2022, hitting 36 home runs and driving in 94. He followed that up with 33 and 26 homers in his two most recent seasons.
Defensively, Walker has been a standout, winning three straight gold gloves. He is expected to bring some much-needed stability to one of the hot corners for Houston.
