The Houston Astros made a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, the club announced.

In the deal, the Astros reacquired outfielder Joey Loperfido for outfielder Jesus Sanchez.

Loperfido is a 26-year old who was originally drafted by the Astros in the 7th round in 2021. After he made his MLB debut, he was dealt to the Blue Jays in the deal that allowed Houston to get Yusei Kikuchi.

He has played in parts of two big league seasons, totaling eight home runs and 39 RBIs. During his initial stint with the Astros, Loperfido became somewhat of a fan favorite in H-Town.

In return, the Astros are sending Jesus Sanchez to the Blue Jays. Sanchez was acquired from the Miami Marlins at last year’s trade deadline.

Sanchez struggled as an Astro, batting just .199 after landing in Houston.

The deal will also save the Astros salary money. Loperfido is set to make league minimum, while Sanchez will make more than $6 million.

The Astros had pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training earlier this week. They will get spring games underway in a few weeks.

You can listen to Houston Astros baseball all season long on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
