The Houston Astros have signed 20 international free agents, including eight from Venezuela, six from the Dominican Republic, four from Mexico, and one each from Colombia and Cuba.
Astros Assistant GM Charles Cook announced the signings on Wednesday night.
This group of 12 position players and eight pitchers, represents a diverse set of promising talents, and the signing marks the beginning of the 2025 international signing period, which runs through December 15th, 2025.
Among the key signings is Cuban outfielder Kevin Alvarez, ranked as the seventh-best international prospect by MLB.com. Alvarez stands out with his flexible and loose approach, left-handed swing, strong defense, and impressive baseball IQ. His all-around tools make him a highly anticipated addition to the Astros’ organization.
Additionally, the Astros have secured Venezuelan outfielder Anthony Millán and Dominican right-handed pitcher Omar Damián. Millán is praised for his athleticism, speed, and defensive capabilities, particularly in center field. Damián, a lanky right-hander, possesses a strong three-pitch arsenal and is expected to develop into a starting pitcher with excellent command.
Astros International Scouting Director Brian Rodgers expressed excitement about these signings, acknowledging the hard work of their scouting staff and the contributions from various departments in making these deals possible. The Astros organization looks forward to supporting these players as they begin their professional careers.
