The Houston Astros have added depth to its infield.
Astros General Manager Dana Brown announced Thursday that the team had signed veteran infielder Luis Guillorme to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training.
The 30-year-old Guillorme split his 2024 season between the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He appeared in 79 MLB games, hitting .205 with nine doubles and 10 RBI. The veteran played at three different positions during the 2024 season playing at second base (55 games), third base (15 games), and shortstop (5 games).
That marked six straight seasons in which Guillorme played all three positions.
In seven seasons in MLB, Guillorme has appeared in 414 career games and has a .251 batting average with five home runs and 58 RBI. The Venezuela-born infielder spent the first six seasons of his career with the New York Mets, who drafted him in the 10th round of 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.
Guillorme also played for Spain at the 2016 European Baseball Championship, as he holds dual citizenship as his father was born in Spain. He was named the tournament’s most outstanding defensive player as he helped Spain win the silver medal. He also played for Spain in the qualifying round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
The Astros announced that Guillorme will wear No. 0 and is the 14th infielder on the Astros roster for spring training.
The Astros will be conducting Spring Training at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida.
