The Houston Astros have traded Brandon Bielak.
The Astros relief pitcher was shipped to the Oakland Athletics on Thursday for cash considerations. Bielak had been designated for assignment on Saturday to make room for pitcher Cristian Javier on the active roster.
The 6-foot-2, 221-pound Bielak appeared in 10 games this season for the Astros, appearing in 17.1 innings, with a 5.71 ERA, nine strikeouts, seven walks, and a 1.673 WHIP.
In five seasons, all with the Astros, Bielak had an 11-13 record, 4.65 ERA, 191.2 innings pitched, 155 strikeouts, and 85 walks.
Bielak was selected by the Astros in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Notre Dame, where he played three seasons for the Fighting Irish.
The trade of Bielak is the second trade the Astros have done this week. Earlier in the week, the team traded outfielder Corey Julks to the Chicago White Sox for minor league pitcher Luis Rodriguez.
