The Houston Astros have acquired outfielder Bligh Madris from the Detroit Tigers today in exchange for cash considerations. Madris will be placed on the Astros 40-man roster, which is now at 39.

Madris, 26, made his Major League debut with the Pirates in 2022, but spent most of the season in the minor leagues. In 71 games at Triple A Indianapolis, he hit .294 (75×255) with 19 doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 34 RBI with a .366 on-base percentage and a .482 slugging percentage (.848 OPS).

On June 20, he was called up to the Major Leagues for the first of what would be two stints with the Pirates big club. Madris would have a memorable Major League debut that day, tallying three hits and two RBI in a 12-1 victory over the Cubs. Overall in his two Major League stints with the Pirates, he hit .177 (20×113) in 39 games with a home run and seven RBI.

On Sept. 16, Madris was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays and assigned to Triple A Durham where he was productive, hitting .317 (13×41) in 10 games with four home runs and 15 RBI (.683 SLG, 1.053 OPS). Madris
would later be claimed off waivers by the Tigers on Nov. 18.

Madris has appeared in right field in 323 of his 486 career minor league games. He was originally selected by the Pirates in the ninth round of the 2017 June Draft.
