The Houston Astros have struck another trade with the Chicago Cubs, this time sending Ryan Pressly to Wrigleyville in exchange for Juan Bello, according to multiple reports.
The Astros are also sending $5.5 million to relieve Pressley’s contract. Pressley agreed to waive his no-trade clause as part of the deal.
During his seven seasons in Houston, Pressly was a great middle reliever and closer for the Astros. Pitching over 300 innings, he recorded 111 saves, a 2.81 ERA, and 411 strikeouts. He was also a two-time All-Star with the organization as well as a member of the 2022 World Series championship team.
Bello is a 20-year-old prospect from Colombia that has a career 3.66 ERA in rookie ball and single-A action. He had 91 strikeouts during the 2024 season with Myrtle Beach.
The full details of the trade are still pending, and Pressly must pass a physical before the deal can be completed.
