Louisiana’s defensive line was a strength in 2022, giving up just 142 yards on the ground last season. Also, 29 sacks by the defense is an impressive number as well.
Now, the line has been revamped due to Andre Jones getting drafted and Zi’Yon Hill-Green going to the NFL as well. Let’s take a look at the new-look Cajuns’ defensive line.
Jordan Lawson
Lawson started nine games for Louisiana last season, racking up 22 tackles. He will be a key piece at the defensive end position for LaMar Morgan and at 6’4″, 245 pounds, he’s known to have a quick first step and will be able to get to opposing quarterbacks.
Sonny Hazard
Hazard will probably be the most critical piece on the defensive line in 2023. He had nine starts in 2022 with 26 tackles and four sacks, which are great numbers for a sophomore. Now, he’s back in the middle for a defensive line with new faces.
At 6’1″ and 310 pounds, Hazard is a bully at the nose tackle spot and will make life very hard for the guards that oppose him as well as the center. I expect a big year from 91.
Mason Narcisse
Narcisse has gotten playing time while at Louisiana but has rarely started. With only three starts in two seasons, Narcisse has 52 tackles for his career with the Ragin Cajuns. With a size of 6’2″ and 302 pounds, Narcisse could finally have a breakout year for the Cajuns very similar to his freshman campaign.
Others to Watch
Nigel McGriff and Antione Bayless are two names that Michael Desormeaux and his staff feel strongly about making an impact up front. Marcus Wiser is a JUCO transfer that started four games last season and should have a role again this year. Newcomers to watch include Chase Edwards, Kadarius Miller, and Demetrius Gladney.
