Best Brawls In Sports

Posted by clintdomingue on April 22, 2016 in Featured

During Friday’s Bumper to Bumper Sports with Ben Love, we discussed what sports have the best fights. Now this disqualified MMA and Boxing because it requires fighting. Myself and Ben agreed that hockey has the best fights because they are both allowed and encouraged and baseball is right behind it. But then it began being about the best brawls (or as Ben put it donnybrooks) in sports. Here’s a few of my personal favorites.

A-Rod & Varitek Duke It Out

This one of my favorites for a couple of reasons. First off, this was during the World Series season for the Red Sox and it was the moment where Boston started to turn things around. The other reason is Joe Buck acting like he didn’t know what A-Rod was saying to Bronson Arroyo. You can clearly read his lips as to what he is saying.

Malice At the Palace

When brawls come to mind in the last decade or so, this one has to come to mind. It changed the NBA in more ways than one. All players involved were suspended for a total of 146 games after the brawl, security was increased from that point onward. Speaking of which, Ben actually talked with former LSU Tiger Ronald Dupree on the 10th anniversary about the incident here.

This Is Straight Out of Slapshot!

As a guy who grew up watching the Louisiana Icegators back in the 90’s, this one is forever in the memory banks. It didn’t happen inside the Cajundome, but the story and the video of the fight lives on through YouTube. It even showed up on the Lighter Side of Sports consistently. I’ve got to give a tip of the cap to the commentator for giving this moment the extra zip. And here’s a bonus from the original Icegators at the Frozen Swamp.
