Big Eighth Inning by Arkansas Seals LSU’s Fate

Posted by clintdomingue on May 10, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

Early on in Friday’s matchup between LSU and Arkansas, it looked the Tigers fortunes were turning around. However, that wasn’t the case as the Razorbacks came away with an 11-6 win thanks to an offensive explosion in the eighth inning.

How It Happened:

LSU came out of the gates strong on Friday with Daniel Cabrera picking up where he left off with an RBI double down the right field line to give the Tigers the early edge. Saul Garza followed that up in the top of the second with a two-run bomb out to right field to give LSU a 3-0 lead.

Arkansas responded in the bottom of the third when Christian Franklin hit an RBI double to right center to get them on the board. After Casey Optiz scored off of a groundout in the fifth, Heston Kjerstad tied things up in the sixth with a solo shot out to center field.

After an RBI single from Dominic Fletcher in the seventh, the wheels really started to come off in the eighth with six runs coming across, highlighted by a two-run single by Matt Goodheart.

Josh Smith tried to get a rally going in the top of the ninth with a three-run triple down the right field line, but the Tigers were too far in the hole to come out of it at that point.

Big Number: 6

Those six runs in the eight put the Tigers in a pretty deep hole with not enough time to get out of it and that’s why the Razorbacks have won their first series against LSU since the 2011 season.

Player of the Game: Dominic Fletcher

Fletcher was outstanding once again with a two-for-four performance with three RBIs.
