Alabama (26-26, 7-19 SEC) may be on the outside looking in when it comes to the SEC Tournament, but they certainly played the role of spoiler on Saturday afternoon thanks a big second inning helping them get past the LSU Tigers (30-21, 13-13 SEC) with a 6-1 victory.
How It Happened
The Crimson Tide wasted little time getting out in front with a four-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run bomb out to left field by Cobie Vance.
Vance struck again in the top of the third with a two-out RBI single to score Kyle Kaufman, getting Alabama out to a 5-0 lead. Daniel Cabrera tried to get things going in the bottom of the third with an RBI single through the right side, but the offense just couldn’t keep it going on Saturday.
Joe Breaux finished things off in the seventh with another two-out RBI single to make it 6-1.
Ma’Khail Hilliard dropped to 8-4 on the season, allowing five runs off of four hits, walked five, and struck out one in three innings of work.
Big Number: 5
LSU’s bats went relatively silent on Saturday, only getting five hits on the evening. Only Daniel Cabrera had a multi-hit game for the Tigers and that’s not a good look for this team late in the season.
Player of the Game: Cobie Vance
Vance made the most of his plate appearances, going two-for-five with three RBIs, highlighted by a two-run blast. That really helped things turn in their favor on Saturday.
