The LSU Tigers are making another splash in shaping up their coaching staff for the 2024 offseason, bringing back former alumni Bo Davis as the team’s new defensive line coach, according to Wilson Alexander of the Advocate.
The news has also been announced by the team.
“As a defensive line coach Bo brings a wealth of proven success at both the professional and collegiate level throughout his distinguished career,” Kelly said. “Additionally, coach Davis is an outstanding recruiter and developer of the players in his charge. I am excited to welcome back to LSU coach Bo Davis.”
Davis was most recently the defensive line coach at the University of Texas, who just completed one of their best seasons in recent history, reaching the semifinals of the College Football Playoff in New Orleans.
While at Texas, Davis had a consensus All-American in T’Vondre Sweat, the winner of the Outland Trophy, and Byron Murphy, won Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year. The line only allowed 82.4 rushing yards a game and held their opponents under 100 yards rushing on eight occasions.
He began his coaching career in Baton Rouge on the strength and conditioning staff before joining Nick Saban’s staff with the Miami Dolphins following his time under Saban at LSU. Two years later, Davis followed Saban to Alabama as defensive line coach. He won a national title in 2009 and departed in 2010.
He went to Texas where he coached defensive tackles under Mack Brown from 2011-2013 before returning to Alabama as the defensive line coach. Following his resignation due to a recruiting controversy, Davis spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2016), UTSA (2017), and Detroit Lions (2018-2020) before joining Steve Sarkisian at Texas in 2021.
Davis will join Blake Baker’s staff in Baton Rouge as they look to turn around the LSU defense from one of its worst performances in program history.
