Brees returns and lifts Saints over Cowboys in OT

Saints Cowboys

After being away for a week, Drew Brees came back and led the Saints to their first victory of the season in a 26-20 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas got on the board first with a 30-yard field goal by Dan Bailey to take an early lead.

Brees responded with a march down the field that ended with a three yard pass to Josh Hill to take a 7-3 lead. This was Brees’ 399th career pass.

Joseph Randle gave the Cowboys the lead back in the second quarter after diving over the line and getting the score after what was initially a fumble was overturned and ruled a touchdown, giving Dallas a 10-7 lead heading into the locker room.

The Saints, thanks to the Cowboys having too many men on the field on a 4th down punt, tied it up when Zack Hocker blasted a 50-yarder through the uprights.

Bailey nailed another chip shot through the uprights to keep the Saints at bay. Hocker responded with a chip shot of his own to tie it up yet again.

The Saints put themselves in the driver’s seat in the fourth quarter with another long drive that led to Khiry Robinson running it in from the one-yard line for the score.

But Brandon Weeden tied the ballgame up after the two minute warning on a 4th down play when he connected with Terrance Williams in the endzone. The Saints tried to end it in regulation with a relatively easy kick, but Hocker hit the crossbar, sending the game to overtime.

The Saints accepted the ball to start the overtime period and on the second play, Brees passed it to CJ Spiller and he took it to the house for the win.

The Saints (1-3) now head up to take on the Philadelphia Eagles (1-3) with kickoff set for 12:00 pm.
