After the top of the third wrapped up, many LSU (15-7, 2-1 SEC) fans got a little concerned after AJ Labas (2-0) allowed four runs highlighted by a two-run double by Kody Hoese. However, the Tigers were able to get past Tulane (9-13).
Key to Victory: Monster Fifth Inning
LSU was able to get within one run at the end of the fourth inning when they scratched two runs across. They were able to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a five-run inning highlighted by a two-run single out to left field from Zach Watson.
Player of the Game: Daniel Cabrera
Cabrera was a key cog in the victory on Wednesday night, going four of five with a pair of doubles and one RBI on the evening. It’s not often you see that kind of performance from a freshman, but he showed what kind of star he can be for this program.
Big Number: 1
The big freshman Nick Storz only threw one inning on Wednesday and had a very rough start to the ballgame, hitting the first two batters he faced. He was able to bounce back though getting the next three batters out. It’s not the best start in the world, but having him finish out the inning without allowing a run was a big plus.
Next Up: Road Trip to Music City
LSU will be headed up to Nashville for a big test when they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores (15-6, 3-0 SEC) for a three game set with first pitch for game one set for 8 pm.
