Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns offensive lineman Landon Burton has been named to the Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List. The news was announced by the award on Friday, and Burton is one of 40 FBS centers recognized.
The Rimington Trophy is given to the nation’s most outstanding center each season and is named for former Nebraska center Dave Rimington. In addition to recognizing players, the award has raised over $5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
Burton is a Lafayette native and redshirt senior on the Cajuns’ football team. He is the only player from the state of Louisiana to have been named to the watch list. As a junior last year, the St. Thomas More product played in 11 games and graded at or above 90% in six of them.
He enters 2024 as one of four returning starters on the Louisiana offensive line. That group figures to be one of the strengths of Michael Desormeaux’s team, which enters 2024 picked 3rd in the Sun Belt West division.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns open the regular season on Saturday, August 31st inside Cajun Field. They play host to the Grambling Tigers.
