The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns seemed to have everything under control headed into the top of the ninth with a 5-1 lead. However, the second day of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament had an air of unpredictability as two of the top seeds had already made an early exit.
Dylan Moore came on to take his usual role of the closer and get the Cajuns to the semifinals, but things didn’t start well for the junior as he walked the first batter he saw. Georgia Southern wound up getting the bases loaded after a single from Mitchell Golden and another walk, this time to CJ Brazil.
After an RBI single from Evan McDonald chipped away at the Cajuns lead, Moore was swapped out for Colten Schmidt. He struck out the first batter he faced, but Logan Baldwin gave the Eagles a 6-5 lead with a grand slam to right field.
The Cajuns were able to tie things up after an error from McDonald scored Robbins, but that was all the Cajuns could do as Jam Williams was tagged out at home.
The Eagles were able to finish things off in the 11th with Jordan Wren hitting an RBI double to right center to send the Cajuns packing 7-6.
Evan Guillory dropped to 4-3 allowing one run off two hits, walked two, and struck out two in two innings of work.
The Cajuns end the regular season 35-20-1 and 19-10-1 in conference play.
