Some stellar defense late was the key for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (32-20-1, 16-10-1 Sun Belt) on Sunday afternoon as they took the rubber match against Texas State (25-27, 11-16 Sun Belt) by the score of 4-3.
The Bobcats got on the board early with an RBI single to right centerfield in the top of the first. It became 2-0 in the second when Mickey Scott grounded out to allow Jaylen Hubbard to reach home safely.
However, the Cajuns got things going in the fourth with Steven Sensley tying things up with a two-run bomb out in right centerfield. The Cajuns got two more runs across in the inning off a sac fly from Pinero and a throwing error from Luke Sherley.
Jonathan Ortega cut away at the lead in the fifth with an RBI double to make it 4-3. There were some scares in the seventh and eighth innings, but a pair of double plays were able to keep the Bobcats scoreless.
Hogan Harris improved to 4-2 on the season allowing three runs off of five hits. The sophomore struck out three and walked three batters in six innings of work.
Wyatt Marks recorded his 7th save of the season facing the minimum in the 9th.
The Cajuns will wrap up the regular season in Monroe when they take on the Warhawks (12-40, 6-21 Sun Belt) on Thursday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
