Cajuns earn pair of Sun Belt Honors

SBC POTW

The Cajuns, fresh off of a win Saturday against the Texas State Bobcats to open up conference play, receive a pair of Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week awards.

Jalen Nixon was this week’s Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The junior quarterback set career-highs in completions (22), passing yards (238), and touchdowns (3). Nixon also rushed for 45 yards on seven carries and a touchdown during the matchup on Saturday.

Jeryl Brazil also earned Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. The junior tied a school record with a 100-yard kickoff return for the score. It was the first of Brazil’s career and was immediately after the Texas State’s Brandon Smith returned a kickoff for 95 yards and the score. The kickoff return tied Darryl Surgent’s 2013 record against Kansas State.
