The Ragin Cajuns had a case of senioritis on Saturday night, falling to Troy (4-8, 3-5 Sun Belt) by the score of 41-17.
The Trojans wasted no time getting on the board with Brandon Burks connecting with Brandon Silvers on the opening drive to go up 7-0 early.
The Cajuns defense forced the Trojans to punt, but freshman Gary Haynes muffed the punt return which led to Silvers connecting with Teddy Ruben from 15 yards out.
The Trojans picked off Brooks Haack on the next drive which led to Jed Solomon kicking a 39-yarder through the uprights to extend their lead. Troy ended their monster first quarter with a 67-yard pass from Silvers to Ruben.
The Cajuns were able to cut away at the lead in the second quarter with Eli McGuire running it from 18 yards out. The Cajuns ended the first half with a 41-yard field goal by fifth-year senior Carlos Alvarez to make it 24-10 heading into the locker room.
The Ragin Cajuns started the second half with the ball and went down the field with a methodical drive that ended with freshman Jordan Davis connecting with Eli McGuire on a 4th & 4 to come within one score of the Trojans.
But just as quickly as the Cajuns had an opening to turn the tide in their favor, the Trojans shut it down a 67 yard pass to Jarvis Bentley.
And the Trojans put the nail in the coffin of the Cajuns season with a 17-yard fumble return by Demetrius Cain.
With the loss, the Cajuns end their season at 4-8 and a 3-5 record in the Sun Belt.
