Coach Michael Desormeaux is looking for improvement across the board in year two at the helm of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. His team opened up the spring portion of the off-season yesterday as they held the first practice of the new year, and Desormeaux spoke with the media afterwards.

DOING THE LITTLE THINGS

The Cajuns went 0-4 in one-score games in Coach Desormeaux’s first season. Improving that seems to be an area of focus early in the spring this time around and the Cajuns leader said as much. “It comes down to doing the little things right when it matters and that’s something that last year we didn’t do enough of.” Despite the issues a year ago, Coach Des seems confident his team can turn those deficiencies around. “This group’s up for the task,” he would go on to say, as he highlighted the first practice of the year.

A MOSTLY HEALTHY BEGINNING

Getting through spring practice with as few injuries as possible is always a priority for coaches. “We’re really pretty healthy right now,” Coach Desormeaux stated. There are three Cajuns who have been ruled out for the spring. Running back Kendrell Williams, defensive lineman Jordan Lawson, and quarterback Ben Wooldridge will all be out. A few other players are missing for now but expected to be back soon and participate during the spring.

OFF TO A GOOD START

Overall, it seemed like a pretty good start for the Cajuns in their spring session. “The execution today was really good,” Coach Desormeaux stated. “We’ve got a core of veteran guys out there who are competing at a high level,” he went on to say, describing how well some of the older players performed in practice. The Cajuns will look to build momentum and improve throughout the spring period which will culminate with the Vermillion and White Spring Game on April 6th.
