The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns left the friendly confines of the Cajundome on Monday night and nearly came away with a big win over their in-state rival LSU, but their late rally wasn’t enough with the Tigers getting their first win of the season by the score of 62-57.
How It Happened
The first quarter was a feeling out process for both teams with LSU getting out to a four-point advantage but a pair of jumpers by Ty Doucet tied things up. After a back and forth between the two, a Faustine Aifuwa layup gave the Tigers a 12-8 lead after one quarter of play.
The second quarter was almost all LSU with them getting out to as much as a 12-point lead following a layup from Karli Seay with 3:01 left until halftime. The Cajuns did finish the first half strong though with an 8-2 run to make it 28-22 as both teams went into the locker room at halftime.
The momentum that Louisiana built late in the first half quickly evaporated with LSU going on an 11-2 run to take a double-digit lead. The Cajuns continued to chip away at the lead and got within one after a Ty Doucet jumper with 4:28 left in regulation. However, the Tigers finished things off with a couple of layups by Aifwua in the final moments to seal their first victory of the 2020-21 season.
