The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns’ softball team fell to Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 10-8 on Saturday afternoon in Conway, South Carolina. The loss ensures the Chanticleers will win the series, with the finale still to play tomorrow.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game began with the Cajuns’ offense getting things going immediately. Emily Smith launched a two-run home run to left-center to get things going. Later in the inning, Laney Credeur singled, and an error in left allowed Sam Roe to score to make it 3-0 Cajuns.

Coastal would answer in the bottom half against Cajuns’ starter Bethaney Noble. A sacrifice fly brought home a run, but Noble limited the damage to just one and the Cajuns led 3-1 after one.

The score stayed 3-1 until the bottom half of the third, when Coastal would draw even. Three straight singles allowed them to get a run home thanks to Georgia Hood. Then, an RBI groundout scored another run to even the score 3-3.

The Chanticleers would get their first lead in the bottom of the fourth. All with two outs, they manufactured a run and made it 4-3. The bottom of the fifth saw Coastal extend that lead. They scored three runs on four hits. When the dust settled, Coastal led 7-3.

The score was brought closer when Laney Credeur launched her first homer of the season for Louisiana. The Cajuns got two in the frame, making it 7-5.

Coastal would play add-on in the bottom of the sixth, with the big blow being a two-run home run from McKennah Metzger. Their lead grew to 10-5 by the end of the inning.

The Cajuns did not quit in the seventh, and Smith cleared the bases with a three-run double to cut the lead to two at 10-8. However, the Chanticleers were able to extinguish the rally and hang on for the win.

BIG NUMBER: 10

The Chanticleer offense leads the Sun Belt in scoring, and that was in full effect on Saturday. Their 10 runs made things difficult and led to the Cajuns falling.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Georgia Hood

Hood went 4-4 in this game and hit a double and three singles. The Cajuns could not get her out and she led the Chanticleer offense.

UP NEXT: The series finale between Louisiana and Coastal from St. John Stadium will begin at 11:00 AM central tomorrow.
