After Friday night’s controversy in the Cajundome, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns had another hotly contested ballgame against Little Rock, but this time the Trojans came away victorious in overtime by the score of 78-76.
How It Happened
Neither team could gain an edge in the early goings of the contest with neither team able to get up by more than five for much of the first half. The Cajuns put some distance between themselves and the Trojans in the final three minutes with a 9-4 run, taking a ten-point lead as both teams headed into the locker room.
Little Rock fired out the gates strong to start the second half with a 19-6 run to go up by three at the first media timeout. After taking a slim lead, it was back and forth the rest of the way and neither team could stay ahead by more than three points. The Cajuns were up by three with 1:42 left in regulation, but a fast break layup was enough to force overtime.
The lone overtime period wasn’t great for Louisiana with Marquis Nowell hitting a clutch three-pointer in the final minute sealed the win for Little Rock.
Big Number: 32
The Trojans bench came up huge with 32 points on the night compared to the Cajuns 11 points from the bench and it may have the biggest difference in the victory for Little Rock.
Player of the Game: Ruot Monyyong
Monyyong was absolutely dominant, putting up 19 points and 16 boards and helped give the Trojans the lead with a pair of free throws in the final minute of overtime.
Next Up: Friday at UT Arlington; Tipoff at 6 pm.
