
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team fell to the Troy Trojans 80-54 on New Year’s afternoon inside the Cajundome. The loss moves the Cajuns to 0-3 to start the Sun Belt season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Troy started with a 7-0 run, getting a quick lead early. Bianca Silva made the response for Louisiana, as she would score their first seven points of the game. Towards the end of the first, Troy used second-chance points to extend their lead out to eight and hold a 17-9 advantage.
The second quarter was about Amijah Price for UL. Fresh off her career-high 30-point performance on Monday, she kept her team in it with nine first half points. Troy, however, used effective three-point shooting to extend their lead. At the half, Zay Dyer led the way with 10 as the Trojans led 40-22.
Troy’s three-point shooting allowed them to keep growing the lead in the third quarter. They continued to make from the outside and held a 63-38 lead.
In the fourth, Troy was able to maintain their advantage. They held on for an 8-054 win.
BIG NUMBER: 60
Troy is one of the top rebounding teams in the country, and that was on display. They pulled down 60 boards in the victory.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Zay Dyer
Dyer had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Troy. Her defense was also on display, blocking multiple shots and forcing turnovers throughout.
UP NEXT: The Cajuns will remain home for a Sun Belt game against South Alabama on Saturday, January 3rd.
