The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team defeated the Troy Trojans 51-30 on Saturday evening inside Cajun Field. The win means the Cajuns clinch a spot in the SBC Title game with a win over ULM next week.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game began with a defensive stop for Louisiana. Then, it was a quick strike for the Louisiana offense. Six plays and 85 yards ended with a touchdown strike from Chandler Fields to Tavion Smith to put the Cajuns up 7-0.
Troy would respond with the next 14 points. They did so on drives of 34 and 68 yards, taking a 14-7 lead on the last play of the first quarter.
The second quarter fully belonged to Louisiana. They outscored the Trojans 27-0, adding two touchdowns by Bill Davis and one by Lance Legendre. Kenny Almendares also added a couple of field goals, and that allowed Louisiana to take a 34-14 lead into the break.
The Cajuns got a field goal to get to 37-14, but once again Troy responded. This time they scored 16 straight points with Matthew Caldwell finding some receivers in the process. However, the Cajuns again had an answer.
This time the answer was Robert Williams on a 96 yard kick return touchdown. That made it 44-30, and the Cajuns never looked back. They added another score in the late stages, defeating Troy 51-30.
