The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team defeated the South Alabama Jaguars 76-50 on Thursday night inside the Mitchell Center. The win moves the Cajuns to 3-1 in Sun Belt play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game started with Louisiana immediately creating a run to get the lead. Much like their last trip to the Mitchell Center, the Cajuns built a double-digit lead in the first quarter. By the end of the period, they led 19-9.

The second quarter began with Tamiah Robinson creating another Cajuns’ scoring run. She had seven straight points and Louisiana quickly extended their lead to 28-9. That lead would hold, as the Cajuns shot better than 50% in the first half. By the break, the lead was 20 at 41-21.

The Cajuns kept their lead going in the third quarter, once again outscoring the Jaguars. That allowed them to maintain their lead throughout the second half. By the end of the third, it was 62-34 Cajuns.

Robinson ended up tying her career high with 22 points and she helped pace the Cajuns in the fourth. Rachel Leggett set her new career mark for the Jaguars with 20, but it was not enough. Louisiana cruised to a 76-50 victory.

BIG NUMBER: 39

Robinson and Erica Lafayette combined for 39 points in the victory. Lafayette has had double figures in every conference game so far this season.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tamiah Robinson

She tied her career high with 22 points. Additionally, Robinson added six rebounds and four assists to lead the way for the Cajuns.

UP NEXT: The Cajuns return home to host Southern Miss on Saturday, January 11th at the Cajundome. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.
