After a tight contest on Sunday, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and Tulane Green Wave returned to Russo Park to decide the series winner. For the second day in a row, Louisiana picked up a walk-off win, this time with a three-run homer from Kyle Debarge.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the second inning, Jackson Linn reached on a fielder’s choice after Carson Fluno tied up Nathan Rose in between third and home. However, a missed exchange to Lee Amedee sent the ball into shallow left field and allowed Rose to score and give Tulane the 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, a bunt was fouled off and Jose Torres made a diving effort for the catch, making it after it bounced off the outside of his glove, and then firing it to second base to catch the runner off the bag and get the double play to end the second Green Wave threat of the day.
In the fourth, Tulane got a pair on with a single and a walk before both runners moved into scoring position on a sacrifice play. The next batter was Gavin Schulz, who hit a sacrifice to third base to score the run and make it a 2-0 lead for the Wave.
Tulane added another run in the top of the fifth with a solo home run from Brady Marget to right center to make it a 3-0 game in the rubber match.
In the bottom of the eighth, Louisiana got on the scoreboard for the first time with Trey LaFleur getting a double to lead off the inning and moving over to third before scoring on an RBI groundout from Caleb Stelly to make it 3-1.
In the ninth, Luke Yuhasz reached on a dropped third strike before Trey Lafleur had a base hit to set up Kyle Debarge to be the hero. The star shortstop from Kinder didn’t disappoint as he took a slider 353 feet for a walk-off three run homer to win the game and the series.
