The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (19-14-1, 8-4-1 Sun Belt) have had a crazy week. The 8-0 win on Thursday night against Arkansas State (19-14, 7-5 Sun Belt) seemed to be a return to normalcy as Gunner Leger threw another gem.
The Cajuns got going early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first capped off by an RBI single from Kennon Fontenot.
Joe Robbins increased the lead to 3-0 in the fifth with a sac fly to center field. For most teams, a 3-0 lead after five innings is pretty comfortable. However, the last two games in conference play proved otherwise.
Those concerns were dashed in the bottom of the eighth as the Cajuns put up five runs. Izzy Edwards got it rolling with a two-run single sent out to left field. Brad Antchak followed that up with a two-run double down the left field line.
The final nail was put in by Robbins with an RBI single later in the inning.
Leger improved to 7-1 on the season with seven shutout innings. The junior only allowed five hits and struck out six batters on the evening.
Wyatt Marks got his fourth save of the season striking out four of the six batters he faced in two innings of work.
The Cajuns will try to clinch the series on Friday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
